UNGA DISEC

Agenda

Deliberation on the Israel-Palestine conflict with special emphasis on non-state actors and foreign intervention in the region.

About the Committee

The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and is mandated to deal with conflicts surrounding disarmament, global peace, and threats to international security. The General Assembly founded DISEC on 24th October 1945, and ever since, the council convenes annually from September to December with multiple meetings conducted depending on the global state of affairs. Unironically, the council’s actions are formatted as recommendations to the 193 member states, hence all resolutions passed in the First Committee are non-binding. This year at JBCN Oshiwara MUN, DISEC will discuss the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict with a special emphasis on non-state actors and foreign intervention in the region.

The conflict is a multifaceted agenda stemming from historical claims to land, violent nationalism, and failed negotiations. While the origins of the conflict date back to the early 19th century, the 7th October terror attack paved the way for a full-fledged war escalated by the involvement of non-state actors like Hamas, Hezbollah, Jewish extremist groups, and foreign parties with opposing ideological beliefs. While the majority of the global community urges a ceasefire and the United Nations proposes a “2 state solution”, the primary stakeholders have rejected both propositions. So delegates, it's your responsibility to ensure the First Committee succeeds in ending/mitigating the crisis while also regulating the influence of both non-state actors and foreign parties.
